Frequently Asked Questions
How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected?
Under NFPA 10 and California Title 19, every portable extinguisher must be visually checked monthly (which the owner can do) and receive a licensed annual maintenance inspection with a new service tag. Dry-chemical extinguishers also need a 6-year internal maintenance and a 12-year hydrostatic test; CO2 and water-type extinguishers need a hydrostatic test every 5 years.
Who is allowed to tag fire extinguishers in California?
Only a company and technician licensed by the California State Fire Marshal may service, recharge or tag portable fire extinguishers. Tags from unlicensed vendors are not accepted by fire inspectors.
Do you come to my business, or do I bring the extinguishers to you?
We come to you. Our technician services the extinguishers on site, replaces any that cannot be brought into compliance, and leaves you with a tagged, compliant set.
Do you sell new fire extinguishers?
Yes. We supply new ABC dry-chemical, Class K (kitchen), CO2 and specialty extinguishers, mount them, and tag them on the same visit.
Can you handle my exit lights and fire alarm on the same visit?
Yes – that is the main reason customers switch to APFE. One technician, one visit, one invoice for extinguishers, emergency and exit lights, and, where scheduled, fire alarm and sprinkler inspections.
Extinguishers, exit lights, alarm and sprinkler compliance – one call.
