Emergency & Exit Light Inspection

Emergency lights and illuminated exit signs must work when the power fails – and NFPA 101 requires a monthly 30-second test and an annual 90-minute battery test to prove it. APFE Corp. performs the annual 90-minute emergency and exit lighting test, replaces failed batteries and lamps on the spot, and documents the results for your fire inspector, throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Riverside County and San Bernardino County.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often must emergency lights and exit signs be tested?

NFPA 101 (the Life Safety Code) requires a 30-second functional test every month and a full 90-minute test once a year. The annual test is the one that must be documented by a qualified technician and shown to the fire inspector.

What is the 90-minute test?

Power to the lighting circuit is interrupted so the units run on battery. Every emergency light and illuminated exit sign must stay lit for a full 90 minutes. Units that dim or go dark fail and need a new battery or replacement.

Do you replace batteries and bulbs?

Yes. We carry common emergency-light and exit-sign batteries and LED lamps on the truck, so most failed units are fixed on the same visit.

Can you do this with my extinguisher service?

Yes – most customers have us test exit and emergency lights on the same visit as their annual extinguisher tags.

Do you install new exit signs and emergency lights?

Yes. We install new LED exit signs, emergency light heads and combination units where the fire inspector has required them or where existing units are beyond repair.
